Great news! The European Union has decided to support our project Saving Mozart via the Creative Europe Programme – MEDIA.
Gérard Corbiau‘s next feature film, Saving Mozart has received a financial support for the development of the project. « Saving Mozart » is the story of a musical rebellion. The film takes place in Salzburg, 1939. Mozart’s city is becoming the cultural capital of the Third Reich. Otto Steiner is trapped in a Salzburg sanatorium while, in the world outside, History is baring its teeth. Austrian, Jewish (a bit), alone (completely), all that matters to him now is music. Tuberculosis eats away at him as much as the petty humiliations of being ill, and, together, they push him close to the edge. He intends to kill the senior doctor in the sanatorium. He intends to kill Hitler as well, and almost manages it. But instead, he will mastermind a musical rebellion… in order to save Mozart!
Written by Andrée Corbiau and based on the novel by Raphaël Jersusalmy, Saving Mozart is a sincere praise for music and Mozart. Who better to transpose this love for music to the big screen than Gérard Corbiau himself ? The Belgian director of Farinelli, The Music Teacher, The King is Dancing will be filming in Fall 2017.
