Road-movie linking 15 North American provincial towns, all homonyms of the Dutch capital. From East to West - from the arrival in New York, the former Nieuw Amsterdam, to California - two directors of Dutch origin, Rogier van Eck & Rob Rombout, sketch a portrait of "small town America" by following a single name. Operating like a sesame, the name Amsterdam allows us to approach both the reality and the imaginary of deepest America. The result is an unusual depiction of a little-known, intimate, sometimes strange America, where the filmmakers are also protagonists among many others. This six-hour documentary is structured into four 90-minute chapters: EAST - SOUTH - MIDWEST - WEST.
