The wind from Mogador

Violaine de Villers - 2000

Feature-length documentary

synopsis

The wind of Mogador blows through the gates of Essaouira. This Moroccan town, steeped in history, evokes memories of a time when Jews lived side by side with Muslims before leaving for the Promised Land in the 1950s. Israeli writer Ami Bouganim returns to his hometown after a 35-year absence. As a child, the wind brought him news of the world. Back as an adult, he seeks inspiration for his writing. In Essaouira, he meets residents committed to the future of their city and reconnecting with their memories. "You're like my brother. Welcome to our home," says a man.
