Hubert Nyssen, Portrait in 22 fragments

Marie Mandy - 2003

Medium-length documentary (52 min.)

synopsis

Behind Hubert Nyssen's carapace, there are many... perhaps ten or twelve, who fight with malice to exist. We've heard of "the publisher and his doublerevealed through the publication of the half-intimate, half-worldly professional diaries of the founder of Editions Actes Sud in Arles. The writer is less well known, author of twelve novels and as many collections of poetry, children's books and other intelligent, enlightened essays. And what do we really know about the son of the beekeeper, the publicist, the Belgian exiled in Provence, the translator, the academician, the collector, the amateur photographer, the father and grandfather, now a retired publisher? This kaleidoscopic film sheds light on some of the facets of this multifaceted character... with testimonials from Paul Auster, Nancy Huston, Françoise Nyssen and Christine Le Bœuf.
